Wright City Hosts Orchard Farm Tonight

Where: Wright City High School. When: Friday, Sept. 6.Time: 7 p.m.Coaches: Wright City — Matt Brooks. Orchard Farm — Phil Kendall.Record: Wright City — 0-1. Orchard Farm — 0-1.Last Year’s Meeting: Orchard Farm 36, Wright City 0.Heavy rain limited both teams to the ground game, with Orchard Farm scoring four of its touchdowns in the final quarter-and-a-half. The Eagles led 7-0 at halftime but began to wear on Wright City as the game progressed. The Wildcats were constantly on the defensive, converting just four first downs. It wasn’t until the 4:54 mark of the third period that Orchard Farm began to pull away.Outlook: Brooks is anticipating the Eagles will operate out of the I-formation spread, after exhibiting a more balanced effort during the first week of the season. Orchard Farm went to the passing game on 29 occasions, using two quarterbacks and four different receivers. Tyler Westerfield went 10 for 23 with 93 yards, throwing three interceptions. The Eagles also rushed for 395 yards, with Armand Keely accounting for 262 of those on just 16 carries. It was an explosive debut with over 500 yards of total offense for the Eagles.Focal Points: As outstanding as Orchard Farm’s numbers were in Week One, they didn’t result in a win. Wright City is also anxious for a taste of victory after letting a halftime lead slip away against Trinity. The Wildcats ground game was effective and should continue to be again this week, but it will be Wright City’s ability to contain the Eagles’ playmakers that makes the difference. The Wildcats must keep Keely and a deep cast of skill players from penetrating the first layer of the defense and overloading the secondary with responsibility.

Wright City will host Orchard Farm tonight during Week Two action.
