Where:Wright City High School. When:Friday, Oct. 11.Time:7 p.m.Coaches:Wright City — Matt Brooks. Clopton — Mike Scheibel.Record:Wright City — 2-4. Clopton — 2-4.Last Year’s Meeting:Wright City 28, Clopton 22.The Wildcats avenged a lopsided defeat from a year before, rushing for over 300 yards as a team. Three backs surpassed 80 yards on the ground, as Wright City led 21-6 by halftime.Outlook:Clopton began the season on a three-game skid before beating Principia and Van-Far. The IndianHawks lost to Bowling Green in Week Six, providing a positive common opponent outlook for Wright City, whom defeated the Bobcats.Clopton’s offense relies strongly on the success of Jack Hicks, who is a talented mobile runner. The IndianHawks possess a pair of sure-handed receivers but don’t boast the stellar air attack from two years ago.Brooks feels like his team matches up physically and is expecting a 3-3 stack defensive look from Clopton. Wright City’s focus is on preventing Clopton’s skill players from getting out in space. The Wildcats are coming off a decent but inconsistent performance, in which they challenged North Callaway at times. A third straight win evaded Wright City due mostly to penalties. The running game has still been the Wildcats’ most effective tool but the passing game has seen spotty success.Defensively, Ben Randolph and the secondary have been making some gamechanging plays for the Wildcats.Focal Points:This week’s contest is a clear opportunity for the Wildcats to make it three wins in four games and stay on track to finish the season strong. It’s Homecoming, so the need to avoid distractions is evident as always.Wright City is relatively healthy again and is enjoying the luxury of depth at skill positions. The key on Friday will be getting out early and not letting up on the gas pedal, with the Wildcats having a tendency of breaking down in the second half minus the Bowling Green game.
The Wright City football team hosts Clopton for its Homecoming tonight.
