Five personal records were set as the Wright City girls track team finished third in the Eastern Missouri Conference championship at Montgomery County.

The Wildcats finished with 96 points overall.

Bowling Green won the meet with 156 points.

Danielle Dyer was an all-conference sprinter selection after winning the 100-meter in 13.42 seconds, the 200 in 27.40 seconds and anchoring the winning 400 and 800 relay teams.

“She just blew them away,” Wright City Head Coach Sue Wright said. “We came home with a lot of medals across the board, too. So that was great.”

Dyer helped contribute 40 points to her team overall.

Jynna Fritz and Erin Tomschin led the Wildcat distance runners.

Fritz finished third in the 1,600 with a time of 5:42.12, while Tomschin finished the 3,200 in 12:53.24, also good enough for a third-place finish.

Both times were personal bests.

The Wright City boys team finished sixth with 74 total points.

Kyle Christopher led the way with first-place finishes in the discus and shot put.

His final toss of 167 feet, 10 inches broke his previous school record of 162 feet.

Christopher broke the previous school record of 138 feet his first time out this spring, and has increased his distance throughout the season.

“I really wanted to beat 162,” he said. “So I went in and cleared my head before my final toss. I was a little nervous and didn’t think I did that well, but when they said I hit 167 I jumped up and down.”

Christopher was joined in the winner’s circle by the 3,200 relay team of Jacob Mueller, Stephon Norwood, Nick Mueller and Bryce Reash, who won their race in 8:50.36.

Mueller also won the 800 with a personal-best time of 2:02.66, and was an all-conference middle-sprinter selection.

“I can’t say enough about the number of conference champions we had,” Wright said. “It was just an outstanding job.”

The Wildcats return to the track Saturday morning for the Class 3, District 3 meet at Lutheran North.
