The Wright City Fire Protection District will host two informational meetings about Proposition Safer, a proposed tax increase that voters will decide at the election booth Aug. 7.
The Fire District is seeking an increase of 34 cents per $100 of assessed property valuation.
District leaders will review what Proposition Safer is about and learn from voters what they expect from their fire district.
The first meeting will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, at the Wil Heiliger Building at Diekroeger Park. The second meeting is Wednesday, Aug. 1, also from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Wil Heiliger Building at Diekroeger Park.
The Aug. 7 ballot issue reads:
“Shall the board of directors for the Wright City Fire Protection District be authorized to levy an additional tax of not more than 34 cents on the $100 assessed valuation to provide funds for the support of the district?
“The District intends to use the proceeds for the purpose of providing quality emergency services to the community by keeping current staffing levels, maintaining all four fire stations with the District and ensuring access to appropriate training for its staff.”
Three fire districts that serve parts of Warren County are asking for tax increases next month. In addition to Wright City Fire Protection District, Hawk Point Fire Protection District and Warrenton Fire Protection District each have propositions on the August ballot.
Voters passed a proposed tax increase for the Marthasville Community Ambulance District in April. Voters rejected two ballot issues from the Wright City Fire Protection District in the April election. The district had asked for a 34-cent tax increase and a $7 million bond issue.
