Wright City Fire to conduct fire training exercise April 19

The Wright City Fire Protection District (WCFPD) will be conducting a live burn training at an acquired structure located at 1424 South Stracks Church Road, south of Wright City, on Saturday, April 19, from approximately 10 a.m. until approximately 4 p.m. South Stracks Church Road will be reduced to one lane in the area of operation, which is approximately one-half mile south of Harmony Church. The WCFPD apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. The purpose of the training is to allow responders an accurate scenario for responding to and extinguishing a fire in a life-like manner. Over the course of the year, WCFPD responders train regularly on subjects such as medical emergencies, vehicle rescue, safety, and operations in an effort to maintain their professional standards. The acquisition of a structure provides the realism seldom achieved by other forms of classes. WCFPD has had the benefit of training in the residence prior to the burn, but the structure has become limited in its use as a training aid and will be destroyed by fire at the end of Saturday’s session. WCFPD has strictly adhered to the legal requirements and standards set for the demolition of a residence for training purposes by the Missouri Air Conservation Commission Regulations, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the National Fire Protection Association. These requirements include testing for, and removal of, any asbestos containing material in the structure, removal and disposal of shingles and any petroleum based products in the structure, and notification of the aforementioned State agency to ensure compliance with the Missouri Air Pollution Control Program. WCFPD Fire Chief Ron MacKnight notes that while the process is lengthy, the end result is worth the time to ensure compliance in order to receive valuable training that otherwise would normally be out of reach. For more information, contact MacKnight at 636-745-2262. Wright City Fire
