The Wright City Lady Wildcats started strong but could not overcome injuries in their home loss to St. Charles West this week.
Wright City (3-5-1) lost to St. Charles West in four sets Monday. The Lady Wildcats won the first set 25-23 before dropping the last three sets.
“The first set, we definitely talked and communicated the entire time,” Wright City volleyball coach Christine Goldsmith said. “We moved our feet. We didn’t wait for the ball. Everybody was ready and anticipating before the ball was even over. And I think that was the big difference between the other sets.”
St. Charles West won the last three sets 25-17, 25-19 and 25-21. Wright City took an early 8-2 lead in the fourth set and led 17-15 later in the set before losing the set 25-21. Goldsmith believes injuries to key players hurt Lady Wildcats in the last three sets.
“We had a couple girls injured and hurt,” Goldsmith said. “We had a new lineup. So they were kind of thrown off. We had to keep changing it. I think the consistency for us hurt tonight.”
Jasmin Simpson and Cassie Reash combined for 13 of Wright City’s 15 kills against St. Charles West. Simpson led Wright City with seven kills. Reash added six kills. Jessica Dunning had 15 assists. Reash led Wright City with three aces. Cayle Redmon had two aces.
Wright City also competed in the Orchard Farm tournament this weekend. The Lady Wildcats split two sets against St. Louis Ignite. They lost two sets to Orchard Farm and Duchesne. Simpson led Wright City with seven kills in tournament play. Kobie Griffit had four kills. Anna Sandford had 13 assists and three aces.
Wright City is slated to play at Montgomery County Thursday.
