The Wright City Wildcats opened their season on the short end of a 40-14 outcome at the hands of the Palmyra Panthers at home on Friday night. Early season jitters led to too many penalties for the young Wildcats, who featured all new starters on offense. Offensive threat Derico Blanks, however, showed flashes of excitement with touchdown runs of 25 and 15 yards. Under center, Nick Hanff also showed promise with a team-long-65 yard scamper. The Wildcats will next be in action Friday, Sept. 2 at Clopton. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
