Wright City will travel to Louisiana for their regular season finale Friday, looking to snap a three-game losing streak and finish the season with a winning record.
Wright City (4-4) fell to undefeated Bowling Green 83-7 last week. Bowling Green has won eight games this year, all by over 50 points.
“They’re a good football team and they executed well,” Wright City football coach Tyler Rickard said. “We didn’t. And so it was one of those games that we learn from it and we move on. We can’t dwell on it.”
Wright City running back Duan McRoberts scored the lone Wright City touchdown in the game. McRoberts scored on a 81-yard run in the third quarter. He rushed for 127 yards in the game.
“Duan had over 120 yards rushing,” Rickard said. “Against that type of football team, that was impressive. And so proud of him for gutting through it and our offensive line for being able to create some holes for him. And he was a big bright spot for us to be able to get over 100 yards against that caliber of defense.”
Wright City will conclude their regular season schedule with a road game at Louisiana (2-6) this Friday. Louisiana is coming off a 36-6 win over Van Far. Rickard said Louisiana runs a two quarterback system and runs the ball about 70% of the time. They run a 4-2 alignment on defense.
“They’re a good ballclub,” Rickard said. “They’re coming off a big win over Van Far. And so this is one that we have to be ready for. It’s going to be their senior night. It’s the last regular season game of the year. It’s going to take a good week of preparation this week and good execution on Friday to be able to come away with a win.”
After starting the season 4-1, Wright City has lost their last three games. Prior to the recent losing streak, the Wildcats had won four consecutive games. Despite the recent struggles, Rickard stressed most of the Wildcats’ season goals are still in front of them.
“We need to start strong and just get that mojo going,” Rickard said. “That kind of confidence that we’ve had earlier in the season. We’ve just got to get that back and just finish through the game. Not allow that high to then drop midway through the game or at any point in the game. We’ve just got to keep pushing.”
Kickoff for Friday’s conference game at Louisiana High School is slated for 7 p.m.
