The injury-depleted Wright City football team closed out the regular season at home on Friday, dropping the 63-14 decision to North Callaway.
The news wasn’t all bad, however, as the Wildcats (3-6 overall, 2-4 Eastern Missouri) amassed enough playoff points to host a Class 3 District 4 playoff game, likely next Friday at home against Fulton (2-7).
In the victory, North Callaway (7-2, 6-0 EMO) concluded the regular season with seven straight weeks of 50-point games and its second straight Eastern Missouri Conference title.
Wright City’s scores came on a 14-yard scramble by Kaveon Schulte in the second quarter and a 70-yard fourth-quarter strike from freshman quarterback Kody Kneemiller to senior wideout TJ Hamel.
In the win, the Thunderbirds’ Coltyn O'Neal broke the school's single-season passing touchdown record as he completed 15 passes for 265 yards and four scores. Collin Moore had seven catches for 93 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
As for taking on the Hornets, the teams have never met. The closest they came to meeting was in 2024, when both were part of Class 3 District 3. Wright City beat Duchesne to move into the second round of the district, while Fulton lost to Moberly.
MSHSAA will officially announce the postseason pairings once Saturday's games conclude.
