The Wright City Lady Wildcats dropped their first match of the season, falling to defending conference champion Montgomery County.
Wright City (3-1) lost to Montgomery County in three sets. They lost the match 25-15, 25-17 and 25-18. Wright City previously beat Intensity Homeschool, Bowling Green and the St. Louis Panthers in their first three games of the season.
“I think it was a lot of getting in our own heads,” Wright City volleyball coach Christine Goldsmith said. “We always are really close with Montgomery and we always compete well with them. I think we came into this game wanting to win and really overthinking what we wanted to do. I think that hurt us a little bit.”
Wright City will square off against Montgomery County next week at Montgomery County. Goldsmith thinks Monday’s game can help Wright City as they look to avenge Monday’s loss next week.
“We definitely know where their strong spots are,” Goldsmith said. “Where they’re going to hit the ball. We’re going to make sure we have our defense ready and that we’re blocking everything we can. I think that hurt us a lot tonight.”
Wright City beat the St. Louis Panthers in five sets last week to win their third match of the season. They won the decisive set 15-13. The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 set lead before dropping the third and fourth sets.
Wright City is slated to host St. Charles West at 6 p.m. Monday.
