The Wright City Lady Wildcats lost to St. Charles West in last weekend’s district quarterfinal matchup.
Wright City lost to the Warriors 7-0. St. Charles West scored six goals in the first half. Wright City held St. Charles West to one goal in the second half. Wright City had two shot attempts hit the crossbar in the first half.
“Kind of the classic our game this year where we come out quick and then we kind of slow down and then we have to rebuttal in the second half,” Wright City coach Devin Raney said. "At halftime, we were down 6-0. We changed our goal. The goal is let’s finish the whole 40 (minutes) for the seniors so they get the full 40. And they did. We had the opportunity to sub the seniors off.”
The Lady Wildcats were also challenged with playing with 10 players after one of their players received a red card with just under four minutes left in the first half.
“At the end of the day, I’m proud of the girls,” Raney said. “This was a very difficult mental fight this year with them. A lot of ups and downs. Injuries. You had (Hannah) Kendall out today. Yesterday, we had a 2.5 hour practice just changing formations and changing who we had in different positions and personnel.”
Wright City finished the season with 10 wins.
