Wright City drivers caught in pileup Thursday

Two Wright City area residents were involved in a five-vehicle crash Thursday morning on Interstate 70 in Lake St. Louis.One of the drivers, Robert J. Rivet, 59, had minor injuries and was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Lake St. Louis, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol preliminary report. A driver from Troy, Joseph H. Rooney, 73, was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.The second Wright City driver involved in the crash, Kyle S. O'Donnell, 31, did not have reported injuries.The crash occurred at 7:52 a.m. March 1. Drivers in the eastbound lanes of I-70 were slowing for congested traffic when a Chevrolet Malibu driven by Rooney struck the rear of a vehicle in front of him, which then struck another vehicle.Rivet, in a Ford Expedition, slowed after witnessing the crash, according to the report. Behind him was O'Donnell, driving a Chevrolet 1500. O'Donnell reportedly did not notice Rivet's vehicle slowing down, and struck the rear of the vehicle.All of the drivers involved were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. The Highway Patrol reported most of the vehicles as having extensive or total damage.Crash
