A driver from Wright City suffered serious injuries in a crash in Lincoln County on Friday night, Dec. 17, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.
Michael V. Axton, 32, was rushed to Mercy Hospital St. Louis after the crash, which occurred after 8 p.m. at the interchange of Interstate 61 and Lincoln County Highway U, according to a highway patrol crash report. Another driver, Nicholas A. Rotunda, 22, of Troy, was also seriously injured and was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Lake St. Louis, according to the report.
Neither driver in the crash was wearing a seat belt, the highway patrol said.
The crash occurred when Axton, driving a 2013 Chevy Silverado, allegedly failed to stop at the red light where Highway U crosses the I-61 exit ramp. Rotunda, driving a 2000 Chevy Silverado, was coming off the ramp onto Highway U. Axton's vehicle collided with the other truck in the intersection, the highway patrol said.
