Wright city leaders don’t have much hope for recovering two pieces of construction equipment stolen in November.Police Lt. Tim Matthews told the city’s board of aldermen at its Dec. 29 meeting that the city ought to cut its losses and take insurance payouts for a trailer and steamroller. Although two vehicles suspected in the theft were identified on camera footage, Matthews said the license plates were too obscure to read and police have not yet been able to locate the culprits.“I’m still hopeful that we’re going to recover it, but I’d say the probability is not great,” Matthews said. The city’s insurance company assessed the actual cash value of the equipment at $2,800 for the trailer and $12,000 for the roller, Treasurer Karen Girondo told the board. The equipment was purchased new for $3,398 and $15,265 in 2011, she said.If the city takes the insurance payouts and later recovers the equipment, Girondo said the equipment must be turned over to the city’s insurance providers.Street Department Director Larry Janish told the board he doesn’t need to replace the equipment immediately, and could purchase used equipment for close to the amount of the insurance payments. He said for any work in the spring he also could rent equipment. The board of aldermen voted unanimously to submit a claim on the equipment and take the insurance payments.Wright City
