Wright City commencement is tonight

The Wright City R-II School District will celebrate 109 graduating members of the Class of 2018 on Friday during its commencement ceremony.Graduation will begin at 7:30 p.m. inside the high school gymnasium, with no ticket limit. Doors will open at 6 p.m.Principal Shawn Brown says this year’s senior class has been very interconnected and supportive of one another. All told, the class earned a total of $275,360 in scholarships, with $56,650 of that coming from local monies.“This group really epitomizes family,” said Brown. “They’re a tight-knit group who comes together to cheer on their fellow students’ successes.”The majority from this class will be moving on to four-year universities, with some having signed to play college sports.On Friday spectators will hear from teacher Shannon Wells, who was selected as the faculty speaker by the senior class.Those distinguishing themselves academically will be recognized for their accomplishments.Class President Kailyn Gudermuth will also be speaking, along with the top two academic performers from this senior group. As of press time, the final grades were still out and the speakers were yet to be determined.Wright City graduationRecord file photo
