After nearly a two-hour weather delay, the Wright City football team remained victorious over the Louisiana Bulldogs in a 27-14 win.
The Wright City defense set the tone early and forced a turnover on downs in the Bulldogs opening offensive drive. The Wildcats’ offense got rolling quickly too after Dayton Humphreys scored on a two-yard run. Kaleb McCory added on an extra point to put Wright City up 7-0.
The Wildcats later scored after Humphreys connected with Nate Turner for a 17-yard touchdown pass.
The Bulldogs started to put pressure on the Wildcats’ defense after they returned the ball all the way to the 14-yard line during kickoff. Louisiana took the ball all the way to the one-yard line, but Wright City held strong and forced a turnover on downs.
Wright City ended the first quarter leading 14-0.
Turner started off the second quarter with another touchdown catch, this time for 29 yards.
The momentum started to shift after the Wright City offense fumbled the ball, which the Bulldogs returned for a touchdown. However, Quinn Schnarre responded with a three-yard touchdown.
In the next play, Terrance Love recovered an onside kick. But, Wright City fumbled the ball and the Bulldogs scored on a 41-yard run.
Wright City went into halftime up 27-14, but both teams never came back to the field due to lightning, and the game was later ended in favor of Wright City.
Wright City moves to a 3-1 season record and a 2-0 record in the EMO conference.
