By Chris OrletRecord Managing Editor Food trucks could soon be selling tacos, pizza, hot dogs or burgers at Wright City businesses and industries. The Wright City Board of Aldermen voted unanimously Dec. 12 to allow food trucks as a conditional use in all commercial and industrial areas of the city. The trucks will be banned from residential streets unless they are making deliveries.Food truck operators will also have to obtain prior permission from property owners to park their vehicles on private property.A six-month license fee will cost $100. Operators can also purchase one-day licenses for $25.Last fall the city received an inquiry for a food truck license from Imo’s Pizza. According to Treasurer Karen Girondo, there have been inquiries in the past for food trucks in the city, but the companies did not pursue a business license.Mayor David Heiliger said there were no objections from traditional restaurants and no one attended the public meetings on the issue. The Wright City Area Chamber of Commerce did not take a position on the issue. The new law states that if a food truck is parked at one location more than two hours, the operator must obtain a written agreement from a business within 150 feet of the truck allowing employees to use a flushable restroom during hours of operation. The law also states that food trucks may not enter a city park or remain idle on public property unless the operator has received prior, written authorization from the board of aldermen. The trucks must have permits from the county health department. The city would receive sales tax from the trucks. In other news, the board:• Approved the hiring of Trent Edwards as a maintenance worker in the public works department beginning Jan. 1, at $12.50 an hour.• Approved the hiring of officer Jeff Catron from part time to full time at $16.50 an hour.
