The owner of a Wright City home heavily damaged by a fire a year ago will receive a second 90-day extension to finalize plans to renovate or demolish the structure.All four aldermen voted in favor of granting the extension at their March 24 meeting. Larry Janish, public works director, and Robert Barclay, the city’s contracted inspector, had recommended approval to the extension.In a letter to the city, property owner Steve Hoerr asked for the additional time to see if the home could be repaired and demolition avoided. The home is located at 306 S. Elm.Aldermen granted the first 90-day extension in December. Officials hoped the extra time would be enough to resolve a dispute between the insurance company and attorneys. They described the burned out structure as an eyesore and said extra police patrols were being conducted since items had been stolen from the damaged home.Other news• The city is proceeding with an amendment to the code affecting front yard fences. The board approved having an ordinance drafted stating no fence shall be allowed in the front yard beyond the front corner of the building line. The planning and zoning commission recommended approval at its March 21 meeting. A public hearing will be held at a future meeting on the proposed change.• A conditional use permit was granted for Fireworks Fanatics to operate a temporary stand at 277 E. Service Road N.• A liquor license was unanimously approved pending the issuance of an occupancy permit, for The Rail House Pub. The new business will be located at 111 E.N. 1st St., the former home of Hillbilly Heaven.• A special permit was issued to Wright City West Elementary to hold a relay recess fun run and walk Saturday, May 14, from 9-11 a.m. The event will be a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The run/walk route is on Wildcat Drive, Hutchison Drive, Bell Road and Westwoods Road. • A training request submitted by Court Clerk Marie Hollenbeck was unanimously approved. She will attend an eight-hour course May 23 in Osage Beach. The estimated cost is $219.72.Wright City
