Record Managing EditorWright City continues to take steps to add more streetlights in an effort to aid motorists.The latest streetlight to be installed will be at the intersection of Highway H and the South Service Road, which currently does not have any lighting in the area.At a recent meeting, aldermen agreed to spend $1,621.68 with Ameren Missouri. A 40-foot pole will have to be erected at the intersection, which covers a large portion of the estimated cost.“We would have to set up a pole,” Public Works Director Larry Janish said. “We cannot get around it. If anybody has been by there, it is dark. There is no lighting.”Aldermen were all in support of the project.“In interest of public safety, I think we should,” Alderman Jim Schuchmann said.Officials have been working the past year to brighten up the city. Streetlights have been added or improved on the North and South Service roads and Indian Head Lodge RoadIn other news• Also at the Jan. 22 board of aldermen meeting, the city is moving forward with a financing agreement with FMB Bank for the purchase of two police cars, five cameras and one body camera. The city has allocated $86,5000 in this year’s budget for the expenditures. The new police cruisers are expected to be ready in 12 to 14 weeks.• A resolution amending the city’s contract for inspection services was unanimously approved. The change was needed since the name of the contractor changed, from Brickkicker Inspection Services to Robert Barclay Enterprises, Inc. The current contract is set to expire in September, officials said.• Aldermen voted 4-0 to allow A Walk Down Memory Lane Antiques to operate a flea market on Sundays, in addition to Saturdays. The business is located at 312 Warren Ave.• The city will spend between $1,565 and $1,800 to update the city’s code book with General Code, based in New York. The expenditure has been budgeted for, officials noted.• A training request for the public works department was approved by a 4-0 vote. The training will cost $530, with the funds available in the department’s budget.Wright City
