Wright City board approves bid for Roelker Road overlay in special meeting

Posted

The Wright City Board of Aldermen approved a bid from Mid Rivers Asphalt to overlay Roelker Road for $403,603 at a special meeting on June 2.

Mid Rivers Asphalt was the only bidder on the project and will overlay the road from Veterans Memorial Parkway to Fruit Farm Road including the stretch of road in front of Wright City High School.

The funds for the project will be taken out of the $6.5 million bond issue approved by voters in the April 2024 election for road improvements.

The board has been holding special meetings for measures with Roelker Road in order to move the process along as they hope to complete the overlay before the start of the 2025-26 school year.

Mayor Michelle Heiliger wrote on her Facebook page that she expected work to begin on the road as soon as the week of June 9.

Heiliger said milling was completed that week and work began on the overlay on June 16.

Public Works Director Kyle Roettger said, dependent on weather, the overlay could be completed as soon as June 20.

The overlay is the second phase of the project as the city patched several areas of the road that had failed earlier this year. The city also plans to widen the road in front of the high school and add a turn lane to alleviate traffic and safety concerns.

Alderman Karey Owens said they decided to push the widening of the road to phase three due to constraints with right-of-way and a utility pedestal that still needs to be moved.

“We’re still working on getting the right-of-ways and then we’ll have to go out to bid for that widening section,” said Owens.

Roettger said there is still a pedestal within the right-of-way that would be required for the widening and Heiliger wrote on her Facebook that the city has requested an updated schedule for the removal of the pedestal from Spectrum.
