Record Managing EditorWright City is becoming a little bit brighter at night. In recent weeks, Ameren Missouri has installed new streetlights at Interstate 70 Exits 199 and 200 overpasses to help brighten up both areas.Last Thursday, Wright City aldermen agreed to spend $3,742.16 to install new streetlights and double the wattage of existing bulbs to improve the lighting along the North and South Service roads.“It’s been so dark,” Mayor David Heiliger said. “We’re trying to brighten it up and make it look like we’re open for business.“The brighter it is, the more appealing it is and safer.”The additional lighting approved by the board will be located on:• the North Service Road at Liberty Christian Academy, Westwoods Road and on existing poles between Warren and the North Service Road.• Veterans Memorial Parkway at the east and west entrances to Diekroeger Park, the parking lot off Second Street, and at the intersection of Hedeman Avenue.“This should light up the service roads,” said Karen Girondo, the city’s economic development director/treasurer.Girondo did not have a time frame on when the new lights would be installed, but expects Ameren to begin the work immediately.“They have worked wonderful with us,” she said.Girondo said the new lights will increase the city’s annual electricity bill by approximately $2,000. She noted that the improvements are being funded through the city’s property tax that is solely dedicated to improving streetlights. The reaction so far has been positive.“People have noticed it is all lit,” Girondo said. “It has definitely made a difference. They are twice as strong as the previous lights.”Wright City Becoming Brighter at Night
