Strong pitching and timely offense has led to consecutive shutouts for the Wright City baseball team.
The Wildcats won their first games of the season in a 3-0 home win over Elsberry March 30 and a 6-0 triumph at North Callaway April 1.
Against Elsberry, Kyle Johnson struck out six and walked two in a complete-game one-hit effort.
Wright City only mustered two hits, but both came in the third inning when it plated all three runs. Sam Unterreiner and Hayden Waters each had a hit and RBI in the frame. Evan Gambill also knocked in a run.
Two days later, the Wildcats broke open a scoreless game with three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings. The late offense supported starter Logan Kellner who struck out 10 in six innings. Chris Russell struck out one in the final inning.
Offensively, Ian Wolff went 2 for 2 with a homer, two RBIs and two runs scored. Hayden Kendall and Kellner added two hits apiece.
The Warriors fell below the .500 mark with a 5-0 loss to Orchard Farm last Wednesday, one day after a 3-2 setback to St. Charles West.
Madilynn Lombardo had both goals for Warrenton in the St. Charles West contest. Bella Roberts recorded an assist.
Wright City got back on the winning track Monday with an explosive 8-2 victory over Elsberry in Eastern Missouri Conference action.
Alex Sutter tallied four goals in the win, with Hannah Kendall adding two goals. Evelyn Bruno and Alexus Bales each had goals.
