Started in 1930, the stated purpose of the Wright City High School Alumni Association “shall be to promote the interest and welfare of the Wright City High School and to renew and promote associations and friendships enjoyed as students of this institution.”
Now more than 90 years after the first two-year certificate graduates of 1929 decided to get together for a reunion, the Alumni Association continues to host a celebration for all alumni the second Saturday in June of each year.
Over time, the Alumni Association celebration has become a Wright City tradition, bringing graduates back to the community, keeping those honored memories of WCHS history alive and strong. The Board of Directors and elected officers try to honor groups important to WCHS over time — the FFA, 1966 men’s State Basketball champions, school Kings and Queens and most recently, the women’s 1994 and 1995 State Softball team.
Unfortunately, because of continued threat of COVID-19 the Alumni Association Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to postpone the Alumni Banquet to Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the Wright City Lion’s Club.
The Board will be monitoring this situation closely and hopefully on August 14 everyone will be together sharing distant and recent memories.
Only two times in the Alumni Association’s history has the yearly dinner/party been canceled. During World War II, from 1942 through 1945, the dinner/dance was canceled because the elected officers were not in Wright City to organize the event. In 1946 a group of graduates came together to continue the Alumni tradition. Unfortunately, in 2020 the Alumni Board of Directors first postponed and then had to cancel the event due to the pandemic, COVID-19.
A wholly volunteer Board of Directors welcomes all help offered when planning and executing the Alumni celebration from year to year and is grateful for all donations made by WCHS alumni. It is through volunteers and contributions that the tradition of celebrating Wright City High School continues.
