In a fairly quick Wright City Board of Aldermen meeting Thursday, May 28, the board approved several items including a change order for the West 2nd Street overlay project.
According to City Clerk Abbie Ogborn, the change order was necessary because the city did not receive a grant from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for the project. The change order would be to add the 1st Street expansion and allow for the paving of the alley between FMB Bank and Wright Stop. The cost for the change order is $69,957 and is higher than the original estimate of $50,000 because the city will be having the contractor, Mid River Asphalt Inc., haul off the excess dirt from the project. Milling work and paving for 2nd Street has begun. The 1st Street portion of the project will happen at a later time due to the need to move four utility poles and the lifting of a storm drain.
The board voted 3-0 to approve the change order. Alderman Owens was not present at the meeting.
The board also voted 3-0 to approve an agreement between the city and Premier Pyrotechnics Inc. for the city’s fireworks show scheduled Friday, June 27. The board had previously approved paying $10,000 for the fireworks show. During the meeting, Ogborn told the board that the city has received pledges for $8,000 for the show, but has only received $6,100.
The board also unanimously approved a special event permit for Wags & Whiskers’ annual Woofstock event to be held at Diekroeger Park Sept. 12.
The board also unanimously approved the appointment of Joe Butler to the city’s park board.
