Wright City aldermen approve bid for cemetery lawn care

The Wright City Board of Aldermen unanimously approved a contract with Mow Brothers Lawn Care in the amount of $1,900 per cut for lawn mowing service at the Wright City Cemetery.

The city had previously used Green Horizons Landscaping, however an issue arose in December as representatives from the Wright City Cemetery Memorial Society came to the board with a complaint that 33 gravestones had been damaged by the mowing contractor.

Following the discussion regarding repair of the gravestones, Green Horizons withdrew as the city’s mowing contractor for the cemetery necessitating the city having to go out for bid. The city received four bids ranging from $1,300 per cut to $3,500 per cut.

Public Works Director Kyle Roettger said he recommended Mow Brothers even though it was not the lowest bid as he felt the company had a more comparable work history, larger staff and the necessary equipment to mow the cemetery properly.

During the discussion Mayor Michelle Heiliger mentioned that their previous cost per cut was $800.

The board also decided against applying for a grant with the Missouri Department of Conservation regarding tree removal. The matter had been discussed at previous meetings, with board members voicing concerns about spending money to apply for a grant that may only provide a small amount of funds.

The board also voted to approve the cost of $23,850 to perform a traffic study for Roelker Road, which would assist in obtaining relevant traffic data in anticipation of future development.

The board also voted unanimously to approve a contract extension with Grace Hauling for trash removal services. The original agreement was a two-year contract with an option for a third year, which the board exercised.

Effective March 1, the current residential rate for trash services will increase from $18.90 to $19.84. The senior rate will increase from $17.90 to $18.84.

The board also approved a right-of-way agreement and memorandum of understanding with TGL Properties LLC to upgrade and maintain the parking lot for the American Family Insurance office on Warren Avenue.

The board also approved a budget amendment resolution pertaining to the police department’s purchase of the Magnet Graykey and Magnet AXIOM software. The purchase of the items had been approved previously at an annual cost of the software of $10,645 and the purchase of the computer to run the software of $9,649.
