Wright City aldermen agreed to contribute $5,000 to the Wright City Memorial Society. The contribution was approved following a review of the 2015 budget. It was approved by a 4-0 vote at the Dec. 28 board of aldermen meeting. The funds will offset some of the expenses related to mowing and cleanup of the city cemetery. The Memorial Society is responsible for cemetery maintenance.Karen Girondo, the city’s economic development director/treasurer, said the Memorial Society’s mowing and maintenance costs were approximately $16,500 in 2015. The society received under $3,000 in interest from its endowment fund so the city’s contribution covered only half of the annual expenses.Wright City sets aside $5,000 in its budget annually for the Memorial Society, but waits until the end of the year to make sure the funds are not needed elsewhere. In other news• Also at the Dec. 28 meeting, the police department received authorization to move forward with the purchase of two used vehicles to add to its fleet.
