Members of the Richard Scott Haymes Detachment 1393 of the Marine Corps League, joined by family and friends of the late Marine corporal, held a wreath laying ceremony Saturday, July 6, at the Jonesburg City Cemetery where Haymes is buried. Haymes died in July 1968 from wounds he sustained during a rocket attack while he was serving in Vietnam. The local Marine Corps League Detachment, which bears Haymes' name, holds the wreath laying annually to commemorate their comrade's birthday. From left are Johnny Tracy, Detachment chaplain, John O'Rando, Detachment commandant, and Dick Bienvenu, Detachment senior vice commandant. Approximately 30 people attended the event. The wreath was placed on Haymes' gravesite by Jerry Gettes, a former Marine who was serving with Haymes when he suffered his wounds.
