Work day planned at Wright City Cemetery on May 30

Volunteers are needed to help straighten some of the older tombstones in the Wright City Cemetery that are leaning and are in danger of falling.A work day is planned for Saturday, May 30, beginning at 8 a.m. Persons interested in helping should come to the cemetery any time after 8 a.m., and volunteer leaders will guide the work of straightening and resetting the stones.Besides leveling gravestones, volunteers will also be cleaning some of the older grave markers. Water to clean the stones will be provided, but volunteers are asked to bring a small plastic bucket and a soft bristle brush. Persons should bring their own drinking water.The work day is sponsored by the Wright City Memorial Society and is under the direction of Jerry Prouhet of Warrenton. Prouhet has received training in tombstone restoration and has restored several small family cemeteries, including the Kennedy family cemetery on South Stringtown Road.For more information, persons should contact the Wright City City Hall at 636-745-1025. In case of rain, the work day will be canceled.
