Due to the extreme heat forecasted through the weekend, Woofstock 2017 has been rescheduled for Aug. 26.An unintended benefit of the new date is that Aug. 26 is National Dog Day.Although the date has changed, the event still will be held at Diekroeger Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entry is free. The event also is dog and family friendly.Woofstock 2017 is hosted by Concerned Citizens for Animal Care (CCAC) and the Wright City High School Superintendent’s Council.“On advice of meteorologists and local veterinarians, we collectively made a decision to reschedule Woof-stock to Saturday, Aug. 26, to ensure the safety of both humans and their dogs,” said Wanda Thomas, CCAC Board member.“We are looking forward to putting on a fun, safe, family- and pet-friendly event,” she said. Some highlights of the day will include a mutt strut to kick off the festivities, a pet-owner look-alike contest, best pet trick contest, grooviest pet costume, music, food, dog obedience and agility demonstrations and activities for the children.People can bring their dog for a dog wash, Pet-i-cure or get a beach-themed framed pet photo to remember the day.Local artist Michelle Streiff will paint a pet’s image on a personalized T-shirt or tote bag. There also will be raffles and a silent auction with great items and pet rescue groups there with adoptable dogs.Vendors will be set up, selling clothing, pet products and jewelry. And any interested vendors or volunteers should contact woofstock@ccacwc.com.The group’s silent auction is live online now and accepting bids at https://www.accelevents.com/events/woofstock#auction.CCAC is raising funds to build and maintain an animal shelter that will serve all of Warren County.“Without an animal shelter our county has many rescue organizations doing great work, of which most people are unaware,” Thomas said.“Woofstock will showcase these rescue groups to bring awareness of their efforts and help toward getting them a shelter to work with.”For more information and complete lineup of events, visit www.ccacwc.com or find the group on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CCACWC.Woofstock
