A Warren County resident was arrested last week for allegedly helping thieves break into a storage unit early this year.
Deborah G. Hilbert, 30, St. Charles, is charged with second-degree burglary and is being held at the Warren County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
The renter of a storage unit at Safe Lock Storage in Warrenton spoke to authorities Jan. 11 and reported that the lock had been cut from his unit. Tool boxes, stereo equipment and other items were stolen, the owner told authorities.
On Jan. 22, a Warren County Sheriff’s deputy spoke to Hilbert, who knew the victim and allegedly confessed to the victim that she assisted in breaking into the storage unit.
Hilbert alleged to authorities that she had accompanied two other individuals to cut the lock and take the items, making two trips in the same evening.
The charge against Hilbert is a Class D felony, punishable by up to seven years in prison if she is convicted. She had an arraignment scheduled for Nov. 29.
