A woman who allegedly drove her child to a gas station while intoxicated, and then punched a family member while there, is facing charges.Angela Trupiano, 37, Wright City, was arrested shortly after 9 p.m. May 22, according to a sheriff’s department report. Warren County deputies allege they smelled “an overwhelming odor” of alcohol when Trupiano was located after a fight at the BP gas station in Wright City.Authorities said before the altercation, a child at Trupiano’s home called family members to tell them Trupiano allegedly had been drinking all day and had driven away with a 2-year-old sibling.Two family members located Trupiano’s vehicle at the BP and grabbed the child out of the back of the vehicle.Trupiano and one of the family members, a woman, got into a fight, authorities said. A witness told deputies Trupiano was the first to punch the other woman, who authorities said received a cut under her eye caused by broken glasses, as well as other scratches and redness around her chest and throat.A deputy who responded to the fight reported that Trupiano could not stay focused or sit still, and at one point nearly fell over. Deputies reportedly located an empty “shooter” bottle of alcohol in her purse and an unopened bottle of vodka in her vehicle.Trupiano admitted to drinking a half pint of vodka earlier in the day, according to police. Authorities said she refused to complete any field sobriety testing.Trupiano was taken to the Warren County Jail and charged with third-degree assault and DWI with a person less than 17 years old in the vehicle. She was released on a $2,500 surety bond. Her next court date is set for June 12 in Warren County Circuit Court.Authorities said Trupiano has a previous conviction in O’Fallon for driving while intoxicated.
