A single criminal charge related to a stolen vehicle turned into multiple charges of assaulting and endangering jail staff after a suspect allegedly fought them and exposed them to bodily fluid.
Jessica A. Nix, 34, of Wright City, was arrested March 3 after being found in possession of a stolen vehicle, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Department. An arrest report states deputies were called to remove Nix from a property on Lloyd Road, where they identified the 2011 Nissan Quest she was in as being stolen out of St. Charles County.
Nix was taken to the Warren County Jail, where deputies said she became combative and fought with three jail officers. One officer had a nail ripped out of their hand, while the others were kicked in the chest and the leg, according to the arrest report.
While in her cell, Nix allegedly wrote on the walls using a mixture of blood and other bodily fluid, causing jail officers to be exposed to it when they had to come into contact with her and clean the walls.
Nix is now charged with first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle and endangering correctional employees through contact with bodily fluids, both of which are felonies. She’s also charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault.
Nix remained in the Warren County Jail as of this week. She had a bond review hearing before Associate Circuit Judge Richard Scheibe scheduled for March 10.
