Parents, teachers and bus drivers trying to reach Wright City East Elementary School are faced with long detours while roadwork is done on the street connecting the school to the Interstate 70 North Service Road. The school district announced Wednesday that Cotton Road will be closed south of West Meyer Road, the street that leads to the elementary school, until April 30. Cotton Road, which serves as the most direct route of access for many students at the school, is maintained by the city of Foristell.Options for detours to reach the school are fairly limited, as there are only a few routes that access Cotton Road north of the school.Drivers coming from Wright City can take North Stringtown Road for 2 1/2 miles to where it intersects with Cotton Road, then turn right and take Cotton Road back south to the school.Residents of Foristell, or Wright City drivers who don't mind driving on a gravel road, can take Highway W in Foristell north for about a mile until they reach Dietrich Road. Turn left, then take the second left onto Schultz Road. Where the pavement ends, turn left on the gravel road, then stay on that road when it turns right. The gravel will end in a T-junction with Cotton Road. Turn left and then drive south to the school. The estimated travel time is about 15 minutes on both detour routes for anyone starting in Wright City. The Highway W route is a longer distance, but makes up time by using I-70 or the North Service Road.A third, longer detour route from Wright City would be to take Highway J north to Highway WW, turn right, then travel about 2 miles to North Stringtown Road. Turn right on North Stringtown, then in 1 mile turn left onto Cotton Road.Wright City East detourWright City East detour
