The Wright City and Warrenton track and field teams recently competed in the St. Dominic Crusader Invitational this past Friday, April 11.
The meet was highlighted by two standout performances from Wright City junior Kaden Cross and Warrenton senior Avery Shaw.
Cross placed first out of 21 athletes with a time of 11.20 seconds in the 100-meter dash. He won the event in three other meets this season.
Shaw placed first in the shot put in 11.60 meters and the discus in 35.17 meters. She took second in the javelin in 31.27 meters.
Winfield’s Evelyn Stark placed first in the javelin with 33.11 meters.
Also for Warrenton, the girls 4x200 relay team of Ava Schneider, Claire Goldsmith, Isabelle Morris and Morgan Marschel finished second in 1:56, Marschel placed third in the 400 in 1:00.13, junior Makayla Witthaus was second in the shot put in 9.57 meters, senior Isham Keeper came in second in the high jump in a personal-best 1.85 meters and Dylan Coleman placed third in the 1,600 in 2:08.27.
For the Wildcats, senior Lydia Clubb was second in the 100 in 13.36 seconds, the boys 4x200 team of Cross, Dayton Humphreys, Seth Leander Potter and Kayden Allison came in second in 1:35.09, the boys 4x100 team of Cross, Humphreys, Allison and Duan McRoberts placed third in 45.75 seconds, the girls 4x400 team of Clubb, Lindsay Pettus, Rebekah Riggs and Ada Ferrell finished third in 4:29.58, Ferrell placed second in 4.68 meters in the long jump and Potter ran a personal-best 53.16 seconds in his third-place finish in the 400.
Both Warrenton and Wright City will compete next at 3:30 p.m. on April 17 at the Wright City Varsity Track Invitational.
