Wildcats, Eagles compete at Bowling Green Meet

The Wright City Wildcats and Liberty Christian Academy Eagles track and field teams recently competed in the Bowling Green Mini-Medal Meet on April 7. 

The Wildcats claimed first place in four separate events, including two relay races. While Liberty Christian did not have any individual champions, the new program placed in the top 10 of nine different events. 

Senior Lydia Clubb led the way for Wright City, winning the girls 100-meter dash with a time of 13.13 second and finishing ahead of 27 competitors. 

Clubb also placed second in the 200-meter dash in 28.11 seconds, trailing Bowling Green’s Alli Hustedde who took the top spot in 27.45 seconds. 

Wright City junior Kaden Cross also found success in the boys 100-meter dash, placing first out of 38 participants in 11.12 seconds. 

The Wildcats won the 4x100 and 4x200 relays in the boys division. The 4x100 team of Kayden Allison, Seth Leander Potter, Cross and Dayton Humphreys crossed the finish line in 46.82 seconds. The 4x200 squad of Potter, Cross, Allison and Hayden Berg placed first in a season-best time of 1:37.86. 

The girls 4x200 team of Clubb, Ada Ferrell, Rebekah Riggs and Alliana Schone placed second in 2:00.38. Louisiana High School took first place in 1:59.99. 

In individual events, Potter went on to medal second in the 400-meter dash in 55.21 seconds and Ferrell took home third place in the girls long jump with a distance of 4.6 meters. Matthew Johnston placed sixth in 12:45.09 and James Guinn came in fourth in 12.10.97 in the 3,200. Bailey Love placed 10th in 7:30.28 in the 1,600. 

Liberty Christian, in its first season of competition, participated in its second meet.

The boys 4x800 relay team of Van Carlisle, Ryan Hoffman, Asher Lyons and Cole Nelsen finished fifth with a time of 4:32.76. The 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams both placed seventh in 1:50.71 and 4:32.76, respectively. 

Tommy Meyer placed sixth in the high jump, equalling his personal record of 1.75 meters. Meyer also set a PR in the triple jump, launching himself 10.7 meters. 

Carlisle went on to place seventh in the 3200 meter run in 12.51.65 minutes.

For the girls, senior Jubilee McGowan placed eighth in the 1600-meter run in 7:22.63 minutes. 

Wright City will compete at 3 p.m. on April 11 in the St. Dominic Crusader Invitational, located in O’Fallon. Liberty Christian will compete at 3:30 p.m. on April 17 in the Wright City Varsity Track Invitational.
