The Wright City boys basketball team has opened the season with two losses in its first three games.
The Wildcats opened the year with a 54-48 win over the St. Louis Blue Knights on Nov. 30 followed by a 45-38 loss to Missouri Military Academy on Dec. 2 and a 52-21 setback to Hermann on Monday.
In the Blue Knights contest, Wright City led by two after the opening quarter and extended the lead to 10 at halftime. Hayden Beck led the way with 16 points and Branden Contreras added 11 points. Trent Bruning and Kyle Johnson each contributed seven points in the win.
In the MMA contest, Wright City fell behind 18-12 in the first quarter and 24-21 at intermission. MMA outscored the Wildcats 24-14 in the second half.
Contreras had four three-pointers in the game for a team-best 12 points. Beck and Johnson followed with 11 and nine points, respectively.
Coming off its first loss of the season, the Liberty Christian boys basketball has responded in a positive way.
The Eagles have won their last three games, capping off the stretch with a 60-51 triumph over Mid-Missouri Home School at home Monday night.
They outscored their opponent in each of the first three quarters, holding a 26-21 advantage at intermission and 45-31 after the third quarter.
Liberty Christian (5-1) had also defeated St. Albans Fulton 68-33 on Thursday and Mississippi Valley 69-34 on Tuesday.
In the Mississippi Valley contest, the Eagles led by eight at halftime and went on a 25-7 third-quarter run to put the game out of reach.
Cole Christian led the way with a team-high 22 points, followed by Josh Dames’ 21. Brayden Wilmsmeyer also reached double figures with 11 points. Dames also pulled down 11 rebounds
The Warrenton girls basketball team fell behind early in the opening quarter and never recovered in its season opener Nov. 24.
The Warriors trailed 19-8 in the opening quarter and 51-34 after the third quarter. Makenna DeClue had a team-high 19 points to lead Troy. Maggie Illig and Gabi Cook also contributed 18 and 17 points, respectively.
