The Wright City Wildcat soccer team started strong but was unable to hold on in a season opening overtime loss.
The Wildcats (0-1) lost to Winfield (1-1-1) in overtime 3-2.
The Wildcats got off to an early lead and led the Warriors 2-0 at halftime. Ricardo Uribe scored both goals for Wright City. Alejandro de La Torre Delgado and Austin Kirn each registered one assist.
Winfield scored a pair of second half goals to force overtime. Cooper Martin and Sean Nicholl each scored a second half goal for the Warriors to tie the game.
Over halfway into the 10-minute overtime period, Martin scored the game winning goal for the Warriors.
Wright City is scheduled to resume game action next week. They are slated to square off against Elsberry Sept. 7.
