The Wright City football team defeated Southern Boone 44-22 on Wednesday in a Class 3 MSHSAA Regional, bringing home the first playoff victory in school history. Battling a team with an identical style of offense, the Wildcats were able to wear down the opposition and open gaping holes as the game progressed. The game was consumed by long drives, mostly exerted on the ground. Wright City opened the game with a 12-play drive that culminated with a 29-yard touchdown run by senior Trent Davis. Southern Boone responded on the ensuing drive, going ahead 8-6 late in the first quarter. The Eagles' momentum was quickly syphened on the next play, when senior Deon Bradshaw returned a kickoff for a touchdown, providing a statement play for Wright City. The Wildcats never trailed again. Wright City led 28-8 at halftime, following another touchdown run by Davis and receiving score from Bradshaw. Senior Delante Blanks scored on a 10-yard run and Davis added a 52-yard touchdown to cap off the scoring in the second half. The Wildcats will now travel to Bowling Green for a sectional playoff game on Monday at 7 p.m. Bowling Green defeated North Callaway in opening round action.
