The Wright City baseball team's regular season is underway.
Wright City (0-5) has dropped all five of its games so far. The Wildcats began their season with a 14-3 loss to CBC Saturday. They lost a pair of games Monday. They lost to Francis Howell Central 13-3 and Fort Zumwalt North 10-7. They suffered a 15-0 loss to Battle High School Tuesday. They lost 12-5 to Washington High School Wednesday.
The Wildcats attempted to mount a comeback in Wednesday's game against Washington High School. Trailing 10-2 after five innings, the Wildcats scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning. They threatened for further damage in the inning. With runners on second and third and two outs, freshman Duan McRoberts lined out sharply to shortstop to the end the inning. Washington added two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 12-4 lead into the seventh inning. The Wildcats scored one run in the final inning.
Through the first four games, senior Logan McCartney led the Wildcats with a .455 batting average. Senior Kyle Johnson led the team with three RBIs. He was hitting .417 through four games. Junior Hayden Waters led the team with two triples and a .727 slugging percentage in the first four games.
Wright City is scheduled to face Hannibal High School and Warrenton High School Saturday at Warrenton High School. Games are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
