This Saturday seniors will cross the stage to receive their diplomas at the Warrenton High School Commencement ceremonies. An outdoor graduation is scheduled for 7 p.m. on the Joel’s Safari Football Field. The guest speaker at this year’s ceremony will be Warrenton High School Class of 2012 graduate Mike Dalton, a cinematographer at Bruton Strobe Studios in St. Louis. The Warrenton High School Band and Concert Choir will also perform.Principal Nick Heggemann speaks highly of the Class of 2017.“Our kids have done awesome this year,” said Heggemann. “The maturity level of our seniors has increased every year that I’ve been here. They continue to impress me in that regard. They start to learn expectations and go try to achieve those and reach a new standard, and this class has definitely done that. They’re a very competitive group.”Heggemann says this year’s senior class is an all-around accomplished group that has been decorated with honors.“Academically and athletically they’ve had a lot of success,” said Heggemann. “We’ve had four Bright Flight Scholars and $1.7 million in scholarship money from colleges and universities was offered to our kids. Based upon their achievement, they are going to project out as one of the highest classes as far as college and career readiness.”Members of this class also won two state championships in softball and were responsible for two runner-up finishes at state wrestling. In the case of bad weather, the ceremony will be moved to the gym with a 7:30 p.m. start. Each student will receive seven tickets during their final day of classes Wednesday to use for the indoor ceremony if necessary.“We anticipate being outside for the event, based upon the projected forecast,” said Heggemann. “It looks like the weather is going to cooperate.”If weather were to become a concern, the district would make a decision regarding the location of the ceremony by Saturday morning and notify parents through an all-call.Graduation
