Warren County residents in need will find relief in a renewed food pantry opening in Foristell.“Not having enough food or the right type of food directly impacts a person’s health, well-being, and productivity,” says Mike Kelly, a member of Westplex Community Church, which is now running the food pantry.Kelly said people in need should come to the Westplex Food Pantry for food, personal and household items. People who don’t have a need should consider making a donation, he said. The Westplex Food Pantry, 22855 Veterans Memorial Parkway, will serve residents of Lincoln, Warren and St. Charles counties. It is a ministry of Westplex Community Church and officially opens with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17.“We hope the food provided by the Westplex Food Pantry will help people not just survive, but thrive — physically, socially and economically,” said Kelly. The pantry will be open every Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon, and again from 4–7 p.m. Residents will be served on a walk-in basis and should bring their driver’s license and a utility bill for proof of residency.Kelly said, “As long as we’ve got food, we’re going to feed (the people who come).”If food runs out, “We will make sure they get help somewhere,” he said.“We’re blessed to be able to reach the community with food,” said church pastor, The Rev. Jack Chemin. “It’s a joy and a blessing to help those who come to us and make their lives a little better.”Chemin said the community has already been helping to fill the shelves at the pantry. Individuals and businesses have donated food and money to stock shelves. He added that donations will always be needed, and personal hygiene items, like soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and the like are generally in short supply.Donations of nonperishable food items, paper goods and cleaning supplies will be accepted on an ongoing basis. Donations of refrigerated foods or meat can be made by appointment.Items that are opened or expired will not be accepted.
