Last Year's Meeting: Wright City 36, Montgomery County 0Behind an explosive ground game and lockdown defense, the Wildcats recorded their first win of the season. With time expiring at the end of the first half, junior running back DeRenzo Blanks scampered for a 70-yard touchdown run to give Wright City a comfortable 22-0 lead. The Wildcats accounted for 301 rushing yards on 33 carries in the one-sided affair. Kyle Tuepker and Blanks each rushed for over 100 yards and accounted for four of the team’s five scores via the run.Senior linebacker Christian Thompson finished with a team-high 12 tackles and tied his season-best performance with three tackles for a loss.
Outlook: So far this season Montgomery County has been outscored 113-20.In this matchup, look for Wright City to take out its Week 2 frustrations and put forth a memorable night on the offensive side of the ball. The Wildcats head into the contest averaging 421 total yards of offense a game.DeRenzo Blanks will look to put forth his third straight 100-plus yard game on the ground after performances of 132 and 116 yards in previous weeks.Wright City starting quarterback Andrew Pfuhl enters with an average of 219 passing yards per contest and has solidified his favorite target in the passing game.Troy Muse currently leads all of the St. Louis area with 251 receiving yards on 14 catches. In just his second year of playing football, Muse has accounted for both of Pfuhl’s passing touchdowns this season. The Wildcats also have the top leading tackler in the area in Austin Buchheit, who has totaled 39 stops. Other playmakers on defense include Trey Saddler (24 tackles, blocked punt), Kyle Tuepker (2 1/2 sacks) and David Ortega (10 tackles, sack, three tackles for loss).Overall, the defensive side of the ball has looked particularly strong for Wright City. The Wildcats enter play against Montgomery County allowing just 16 points per game and have five sacks.
The Bottom Line: If Wright City comes out with the same type of drive as it did in the second half against Orchard Farm, the scoreboard could be lit up with big numbers by the end of the contest for the road team. With plenty of speed to go around, the Wildcats could put forth one of their best offensive displays this season in Week 3.A hunger to get back on the winning track surrounds Sargent’s team.
Senior quarterback Andrew Pfuhl tossed for nearly 200 yards for Wright City in a loss to Orchard Farm on Friday night at home. Pfuhl and the offense will look to put up big numbers against Montgomery County in Week 3.
