The Warrenton football team was unable to derail Helias' bid for a perfect season on Wednesday, losing 42-7 in the regional round of the MSHSAA playoffs. In a rematch of last fall's first round meeting, Helias flexed its muscle in the second quarter, scoring three touchdowns to take a 29-0 lead by halftime. The Crusaders scored on runs of 33, 95 and 53 yards in the first half. Warrenton's only answer came on the opening drive of the third quarter, as it used a balanced attack to set up an eventual one-yard run by quarterback Scotty Lathrop. The Warriors closed out their season at 6-5, while Helias advanced to meet its district opponent Hannibal. Wright City decided to mix up its offensive approach entering a regional matchup at Blair Oaks. The result was a game not decided until the final quarter, as the Wildcats fell 32-20, after giving up four unanswered touchdowns. Wright City scored on its first drive of the game and held a 14-13 lead at halftime. The Wildcats jumped ahead 20-13 midway through the third quarter on an 85-yard interception return by Jake Zumwalt. Blair Oaks scored late in the period on a pass play to tie the game 20-20 and never surrendered its momentum. Wright City threw two consecutive interceptions and then coughed up the ball inside its own its 10-yard line. Blair Oaks recovered the fumble in the end zone, putting the game out of each. The Wildcats closed out the season at 7-4.
