Record Managing EditorThe Warrenton girls golf team completed its inaugural season by competing in the Class 2, District 4 Tournament last week.As a team, the Warriors shot a 548 to finish last in the 12-school field. The tournament was held Sept. 26 at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton.Columbia Rock Bridge shot a 340 to win the team crown, eight strokes better than runner-up Columbia Hickman. Holt (376), Fort Zumwalt West (383) and Washington (384) rounded out the top five.Jordan Todd shot a team-best 114 and placed 42nd overall to lead Warrenton. Deanna Martin followed in 50th with a 119. Others who competed for the Warriors were Morgan Toebben (55th, 137) and Taylor Null (58th, 176)For the program’s first year, Coach Matt Griffin was pleased with his players’ performance and improvement.“We had three girls — Morgan, Jordan and Deanna — shoot their best 18-hole scores of the year at districts,” he said. “It was good for us to see positive results at the end of the year to show the progress that we have made. I am very proud of where we are as a program and the first year was a total success.”Next fall, the first-year coach envisions greater success.“I believe we have three or four girls capable of competing at districts next year with a chance to make it to the sectional round,” he said. “We will play a full conference schedule next year and the hope is to be competitive in those matches as well.”Rock Bridge’s Julia Brower was the medalist with a 3-over 75, while teammate Olivia Sowers was second with a 79.Warriors Golf
