The Warrenton track team dominated the competition at the Zumwalt East Throwdown on April 7, claiming first place in both the boys and girls divisions.

The Warriors scored 36 points in the girls division and 31 in the boys division. The girls won the meet by nine points over Fort Zumwalt East, while the boys edged Northwest by three points to win the team title.

The meet, which featured only throwing events and relay races for throwers, saw standout performances from multiple athletes, including senior Avery Shaw, who shattered her own school record in the shot put.

Overall the boys team placed first in the javelin and shot put events, while the girls placed first in the shot put, discus and 4x100 relay race. In addition, the boys team finished third in the discus and fourth in the 4x100 relay race, while the girls placed third in the javelin throw.

Shaw not only took first place in the shot put with a school-record throw of 12.16 meters but also earned a gold medal in the discus in 32.05 meters.

The 4x100 throwing relay of Shaw, Makaylay Witthaus, Natalie Sibert and Julianne Kinney won in 1:00.99.

Shaw also placed second in the javelin throw in 29.06 meters, just behind Northwest’s Mary Consolino (31.7 meters).

Witthaus, a key contributor, had an impressive showing as well, placing fourth in both the discus (26.19 meters) and shot put (10.13 meters). Sibert placed 23rd in the shot put with a throw of 7.09 meters and ninth in the javelin throw with 19.53 meters. Kinney added depth to the team’s javelin performance, finishing ninth with a throw of 24.94 meters.

In the boys division, the 4x100 of Kyle Lauck, Marcus Greene, Javon Jones and Antwian Pierce placed fourth in 51.25 seconds.
