Ava Schneider will have a busy summer once the school year concludes.
The Warrenton sophomore is one of five students from the St. Louis region who have been selected to attend the Missouri AgriBusiness Academy during the first week of June.
Schneider, who earned the honor in conjunction with the Warrenton High School FFA, said that her time with the organization has not only helped make her a better student but also a better person.
“FFA means a lot to me because it has helped me grow as a leader and given me opportunities I wouldn't have had otherwise,” Schneider said. “Through FFA, I have developed skills in communication, responsibility and teamwork. I've also participated in public speaking events, where I was selected to compete at the state level, along with competitions and projects that have helped me to build confidence and prepare for my future.”
The Missouri AgriBusiness Academy is an opportunity for the top 30 sophomores in Missouri FFA or 4-H to experience the business side of agriculture.
Attendees will tour agricultural businesses in the St. Louis area and learn everything agriculture has to offer.
“During the Academy, I’ll be participating in workshops, leadership activities, and networking with other FFA members and industry professionals,” Schneider said. “It focuses on building skills like communication, teamwork, and personal growth.”
Schneider said that the selection process has unfolded over the past few months.
It required her to undergo a formal selection process, including oral interviews.
“I filled out an application in January and was notified in March that I was one of the 10 selected from my district to compete in oral interviews,” Schneider said. “I had to demonstrate my involvement in FFA, leadership experiences, and commitment to agriculture. From there, they selected five people from each district. After the interviews were conducted, I received an email notifying me that I was one of the 30 sophomores in the state of Missouri to achieve this honor.”
Schneider went on to talk about just what an honor an invitation to the AgriBusiness Academy is.
While Warrenton has a rich FFA tradition, the opportunity she now has is not something every student gets to experience.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to learn more about agriculture and help me plan my future,” Schneider said. “I am proud to represent my school and FFA chapter, and looking forward to bringing what I learn back home to other members.”
