Warrenton's Capstick signs with Lindenwood-Belleville

Warrenton outfielder Hunter Capstick formally committed to play baseball at Lindenwood University-Belleville next year.

A two-time all-Gateway Athletic Conference North selection, Bryant led the Warriors with 28 RBIs, seven doubles, four triples and three home runs last season.

“There’s definitely a pressure off my shoulders,” he said after signing Friday. “It’s something I’ve been looking forward to since deciding to play college ball last year.”

Lindenwood-Belleville competes in the NAIA American Midwest Conference, and is led by Head Coach Logan Johnson.

“They have a group of younger coaches who seem like they have a determined path on where they want the program to be,” Capstick said. “I really liked their facilities, too.”

Last season as a junior, Capstick helped lead Warrenton to a district championship game appearance.

Warrenton Head Coach Eric Burle thinks Capstick’s leadership will play a big role on this year’s team. That positive attitude, he said, likely helped him in the recruiting process, as well.

“He shows up to everything in the offseason and does all the little things you really want from a player,” Burle said. “Some kids show up here and there, but there is something to be said for a kid that pays attention to all the little details and shows up to all the offseason workouts.”

Capstick is excited for his final high school season, which begins next month.

“I think we have a really good team, and hopefully we can get that district title we’ve been searching for,” he said. “I want to be a better leader and step up when the team needs me.”

Last season that meant putting in innings on the mound when called upon.

He pitched a shutout in the district semifinal win over St. Dominic, but expects to stay in right field in college.

“He has the potential to push for the conference player of the year, hopefully,” Burle said. “Hunter is a guy that can hit for extra bases, which is huge. We’ve been fortunate to have guys get on base in front of him and he’s been able to drive some guys in. You know you’re always going to get 100 percent out of him.”
