Warrenton WYSE team advances to state competition April 19

The Warrenton High School Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) team will be competing in the state competition next week.The students placed third in the large-school division at the sectional competition held March 11 at St. Louis Community College in Florissant. Warrenton also had two individual students finish in the top three. Only the top three teams and individuals advance to state, which will be held April 19 at Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla.The WYSE competition consists of team members each taking two exams covering seven subject areas: English, math, biology, chemistry, physics, entering graphics and computer science.Senior Mackenzie Miller wound up second in the English competition, while junior Bill Hale was third in engineering graphics.Warrenton teacher Mike Shaw, served as co-sponsor of the group with Christina Zibart.The entry fee and transportation costs were covered by Benny and Becky Avis and Warrenton Golf Course.Warrenton High School
