Warrenton wrestling advances six to state tournament

The Warrenton wrestling team returned home from the Class 3 District 2 Tournament on Saturday with six state qualifiers.Junior Dan Filipek won the district title at 152 pounds to return to the state tournament, where he finished second last winter.Junior Dominic Kennedy claimed the district crown at 106 pounds and hopes to reach the medal rounds for the first time at state this weekend.Additionally, senior Christian Yates advanced with a third-place finish at 120 pounds, while senior Seth Brierly took third at 126 pounds.Junior James Biship placed second at 138 pounds, while junior Jacob Manion finished third at 195 pounds.Warrenton opens the state tournament at 5 p.m. on Thursday.WARRENTON ADVANCES SIX TO STATEDerrick Forsythe photo.
