The Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander-in-Chief Al Lipphardt and its National Auxiliary President Brenda Bryant, from Hawk Point, chose Operation Bottom Cover as their special joint project for 2024-25.
Operation Bottom Cover works to provide diapers and baby wipes for the children of American servicemembers.
The VFW Post 2180 in Warrenton also had the chance to participate.
Auxiliary members Jackie Davis and Brandy Young were given the opportunity to purchase almost $500 worth of diapers and wipes for the National Guard Armory in Warrenton.
They were delivered on July 7 where Davis and Young were met by several unit members to unload the items.
There were all kinds of diapers and wipes for the unit to disperse among its members. This is only a small way the VFW and the auxiliary work to help the U.S. Military and its families.
The cost of diapers and baby wipes continues to rise and Lipphardt and Bryant thought the project would be a great way to help support the country’s men and women in the armed forces.
The VFW Auxiliary has raised over $90,000 towards the initiative this year and is still receiving donations. That total does not include the numerous donations made by local VFWs and auxiliaries to military and National Guard units across the United States.
The Missouri VFW and its auxiliary raised over $14,500 not counting the actual diapers and wipes donated at their fall conference in October 2024. All items received were dispersed to military units posted in Missouri.
